Abu Dhabi Co-op takes on Souq shops, plans expansion
Abu Dhabi Farmers' Services Centre (ADFSC) has signed an agreement allowing the Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society to manage its Souq shops across the UAE.
Under the deal, Abu Dhabi Co-op will operate the Souk shops which are spread throughout Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region for the next 10 years.
The agreement will see ADFSC receive an annual sales percentage from the Abu Dhabi Co-op branches in addition to having access to the branches for the promotion of local agricultural and animal products, a statement said.
Rashid Mohammed Khalfan Al Shariqi, ADFSC chairman, said: "Abu Dhabi Co-op's many years of experience in the retail industry would be beneficial in managing and operating the Souq shops."
The agreement allows ADFSC to focus on plans aimed at supporting agriculture in Abu Dhabi and improving the quality of local produce. The agreement will also enable ADFSC to promote local produce across all Abu Dhabi Co-op branches.
Ibrahim Abdullah Al Bahr, CEO of Abu Dhabi Co-op, said an ambitious expansion plan would be implemented to bring the Souk shops to a larger audience.
He added that high importance will be given to Abu Dhabi Co-op's policy for supporting local produce, especially fresh products sourced from farms in the emirate.
