The world's biggest hotel is set to open in Saudi Arabia

KSA: An ambitious hospitality has caught the attention of the Buro 24/7 Middle East lifestyle desk this morning – meet the Abraj Kudai, a.k.a. The world's largest hotel. Spread over a whopping 1.4 million square metres, Abraj Kudai will offer 10,000 rooms in 12 separate towers when it opens in Makkah, Saudi Arabia in 2017.

Designed by Dar Al Handasah, the opulent four/five-star hotel will become a new landmark for the Manafia area in Makkah's central zone. Set to cost $3.5 billion, the new project will also feature the world's largest dome – which will house (along with the 10k rooms) 70 restaurants, rooftop helipads, royal floors and a full size convention centre.

Created to emulate a traditional desert fortress with a contemporary twist, London-based design company Areen Hospitality will be responsible for ensuring that the interiors match the striking exterior of the new hotel.

"We are honoured to be trusted with such a challenge. Designing hotel interiors on such a massive scale, with no operators yet in place, requires complex programming and design resourcing. At Areen Hospitality we allow for this and have the experience to respond to such a challenge, without ever losing the creative essence needed to welcome and surprise the guests expected at Abraj Kudai," said Andrew Lindwood, head of design at Areen Hospitality.
