Nakheel inks deal to bring top brands to new Al Khail mall
Nakheel said on Sunday it has signed an agreement with Landmark Group to operate more than 25 brands at its Al Khail Avenue shopping, dining and leisure destination at Dubai's Jumeirah Village.
The deal with one of the region's largest retail and hospitality conglomerates will see Landmark Group operate over a range of fashion, electronics, homeware, food and beverage and entertainment brands.
Among them will be Home Centre, Centrepoint, Emax , New Look, Reiss, Fun City, Shoexpress, SportsOne and Candelite and Landmark's outlets will occupy over 220,000 square feet at the mall.
Last month, Nakheel confirmed that Al Khail Avenue will feature a 14-screen movie complex from Reel Cinemas. High-end British supermarket chain, Waitrose, is also on board.
Omar Khoory, director of Nakheel Retail, said: "Al Khail Avenue is proving a magnet for retailers, restaurant operators and entertainment-related businesses wanting to be part of this exciting new destination development. Our partnership with Landmark Group is a major milestone for Al Khail Avenue and the start of what we believe will be a long-term collaboration as we continue our expansion into the retail sector."
Manu Jeswani, director, Landmark Group, added: "Landmark Group is committed to strengthening its presence and serving various communities across the UAE.
"Al Khail Avenue is close to numerous key residential developments and will truly enhance the shopping and entertainment offering in Dubai. We are bringing over 25 core brands to the mall and, through our strong presence, will cater to a large, captive, loyal shopper base. We believe that this partnership will impact our business goals positively."
With a total of 1.2 million square foot of retail space, Al Khail Avenue will have 350 shops, a diverse range of cafes and restaurants including al fresco dining and a multi-storey car park with 4,400 spaces. Construction will begin this year, with expected opening in 2018.
Nakheel's retail project portfolio is set to become the biggest in the UAE, with 10 new large-scale developments and a growing collection of smaller-scale community retail centres on the way. The company has more than 11 million square feet of leasable retail space in the pipeline, adding to the 2.5 million already in operation at its Dragon Mart and Ibn Battuta Mall developments.
